Busy Week in Malware

July 14, 2007 on 3:13 pm | In On the Radar | No Comments

I don’t know about everyone else, but my Inbox has been inundated with “PostCards from somebody” all week!  Obviously, this is an outbreak of more malicious e-mails with the sole purpose of infecting computers for a larger and fraudulent purpose.

As we always say, never open any e-mail unless you are confident it is safe to open and never, ever click links within e-mails from people you do not know!

One more tidbit has to do with a rather unusual, but obviously malicious e-mail I received from overseas having the subject of “Employment Conditions“.  The body of the e-mail states:

Dear Potential Employee,

After reviewing your resume we are pleased at what we have seen.
To proceed we recommend that you upgrade your education level in
order to comply with company policy. We ask that you call the number
below and leave the area of your field/expertise so you can get the
educational paperwork needed to show you have completed the level we
require. We ask all candidates to obtain these additional educational
documents in order to comply with company policy and to enhance internal
workplace opportunities.

*This number is a 3rd party number which does NOT have any knowledge
regarding your personal information, employment, or your required
situation to upgrade formfuture employment.

Best Regards,
Human Resources Department

Please Call: 1 (xxx) xxx-0000 (telephone number removed for your protection)

I’m not sure what happens when someone calls the number…but I suspect it could either cost you a lot of money or the person answering the call might try real hard to get your personal information.  Once again, there are grammatical mistakes and I certainly did not apply for any jobs over the Internet.

Be careful if you receive any of these types of e-mails.  Do Not Open Them!
